A Casual Commute is a short stop motion animation which I directed and created. It was awarded first place at the 2017 Roughcut 51 Second Film Challenge.
The brief was to make a 51 second film based on the theme of The Summer of Love 1967, in 51 days. I designed and built the sets and puppets, creating two heavily contrasting worlds: one filled with the darkness and grey of workers stuck in an endless commute of money making, consumerism and materialism and the other bursting with the light and colour of those who have cast off the shackles of consumerism and opted for love, freedom and the sheer joy of being alive.
I drew artistic inspiration from 60s and 70s psychedelic art and music, as well as the short stop motion film Balance.
